Eco Routes

Gujarat has 22 wildlife sanctuaries and four national parks. It becomes quite difficult to visit all the places in one go. So, some eco-routes are being suggested. The suggested eco-routes will facilitate the planning of eco-tours to various wild destinations of Gujarat.

Eco Diversity Route

An avid tourist will get to see five to six different eco systems and three national parks within a distance of about 1000 km. Desert eco system of little Rann of Kachchh, Marine eco-system near Jamnagar, Savannah type of grass land eco system at Velavadar, Dry deciduous Forest at Sasan and Wetland system at Nalsarovar-all fall in this route. The only home for Asiatic Lion and Indian wild ass can be spotted on this route. Famous temple of Somnath and Dwarka are close to this route.

Aravallis route

This route includes two sanctuaries with dry deciduous and rocky type of climate. One may spot sloth bear or leopard roaming in the jungle of these Sanctuaries. It also provided serene beauty of nature as well as pious temple of Ambaji.

Eastern Forest route

This 600 kms route covers the eastern belt of Gujarat state covering the plateau region on boundary of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh & Maharastra. Ratanmahal and Jambhughoda are ideal places to spot bear as well as leopards. Whereas Shoolpaneshwar harbours bamboo forests and the rare flying squirrel, the temples of Pavagadh and Sardar Sarovar dam provide a good break from the wilderness of sanctuary.

Desert route

In the desert Safar of the State, the route covers about 800 kms and two of the three major deserts of our country. The majestic wild ass and the pink lake lf flamingo city are breathe taking and a must for nature lovers. The myriads colours of the Kachchhi folk against the harshness of desert make the route worth visiting.

Southern Forest route

This route covers the southern region of Gujarat and differs from rest of the forest type of the state. This 800 kms route includes one National Park and two Sanctuaries with moist deciduous forest and Bamboo forests. It also includes two major dams and the only hill station of the state-Saputara.
